Initial Post Instructions

There are many theories in relation to motivation – Taylor’s scientific management, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, Herzberg’s two factor motivation, McGregor’s Theory X and Y, Ouchi’s Theory Z, etc. Choose one theory from the textbook or lesson reading. Find an article in the Chamberlain library that applies that theory to nursing or healthcare in general. Discuss how the theory is still applicable to motivational situations in the workforce.

In this course, we have learned several theories of motivation. These include Taylors scientific management, Herzberg’s two factor motivation, Ouchi’s theory Z, McGregor’s theory X and Y, and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. To date, these theories continue to be applied in a variety of settings to enhance employee motivation, including the nursing practice. I used Chamberlain library to search for studies exploring the application of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs to increase nurse motivation. The article explores how nurse leaders can use Maslow’s hierarchy of needs to create a healthy working environment, foster self-actualization among nurses, and increase their morale (Hazanov et al., 2020). Herein, the researchers employed the cross-sectional design. They recruited a sample population of 144 nurses (Hazanov et al., 2020).
