The RN to BSN program at Grand Canyon University meets the requirements for clinical competencies as defined by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), using nontraditional experiences for practicing nurses. These experiences come in the form of direct and indirect care experiences in which licensed nursing students engage in learning within the context of their hospital organization, specific care discipline, and local communities.

Childhood obesity has emerged as one of the most fundamental public health concerns in the United States over the last couple of years. Taking this into consideration, currently, one in three children in the United States is either overweight or obese. Additionally, about 17 percent of children in the country are considered obese, with the highest prevalence being between the age of 12 and 19 years and the lowest between 1 and 5 years.  According to Brown, Halvorson, Cohen, Lazorick, and Skelton (2015), in the last three decades, the increase in obesity rates has been reported across children of all ages.  However, children between the age of 6 and 11 years are considered to be at a higher risk of childhood obesity.
