There has been emergence of distinct configurations of models of practice within healthcare systems. Shared governance model has proven to be highly productive in enhancing team nursing, accountability systems, managed care, decision making and participation (Nelson et al., 2016). The shared governance model is desirable following its ability to allow for the integration of the core values and beliefs embraced by the professional practice as an agency for achievement of quality care. Taking this into account, this paper seeks to discuss shared governance model for SLMC, the key concepts of the model, empirical evidence supporting the project and provides examples demonstrating the implications of the shared-governance model to nursing.

The Key Concepts of the Shared-Governance Model

The shared governance model I as a nursing executive intent to implement in Saint Louis Medical Center (SLMC) will include the key concepts of equity, ownership, accountability and partnership (Goodman et al., 2015). Equity entails equal focus on patient, services and staff for safe and effective care provision where each member owns equal responsibility in the quality of care and patient outcomes.
