One of the core challenges in healthcare organizations involves the number of nurses to address the increase in patient population and in particular the baby boom generation. A number of aspects have been attributed to nursing shortage which includes low student turnout to study the profession, an increase in the current patient population, and nursing professionals’ turnover (MacLean, Hassmiller, Shaffer, Rohrbaugh, Collier, & Fairman, 2014). The impact of this shortage is reflected in the reduced quality of care, fatigue among the remaining nurses, and poor patient outcome.
