One theory that I found useful to my practice, nurse education, is the Virginia Henderson’s need theory. The theory stresses on the significance of increasing the patient’s independence to avoid delaying their progress post-hospitalization. Henderson’s emphasis on the fundamental human needs are the key focus of the practice of nurses and have resulted in further development of theory with respect to patient needs and the role of nursing in facilitating the satisfaction of those needs (Ahtisham & Jacoline, 2015). The need theory assumes that nurses care for a patient until he or she can independently care for self, nurses are committed and willing to serve and thus will devote themselves to their patient on a 24/7 basis, and nurses should be education in both science and arts at the college level.
