Project Literature Review

Many past and recent researchers have identified various strategies for improving communication while others still continue to undertake evidence-based research in order to introduce optimal contemporary communication approaches to healthcare communication. Prior to undertaking any research, it is highly essential to search, review and analyze the current existing literature related to the topic of interest in order to acquire more insights, develop on their strengths and weakness, and form a point of reference (Achrekar et al., 2016). Taking this into consideration, this paper is a project literature review on the use of SBAR communication tool as compared to the use of informal communication channels for improving healthcare communications. It includes identified current evidence-based literature, application of evidence-based literature and literature analysis.

Current Evidence-based Literature

This project literature review identified a total of 10 current works of literature on improving healthcare communication by use of various communication strategies. To begin with, a prospective intervention study by Randmaa, Swenne, Mårtensson, Högberg, and Engström (2016) was aimed at establishing how SBAR enhances communication and safe atmosphere whilst reducing incident reports following communication failures in an anesthetic clinic. The second literature was a systematic review by Müller et al. (2018) aimed at determining the impact of the SBAR tool on communication and patient hand-off and in enhancing patient safety. The third literature is a study by Panesar, Albert, Messina, and Parker (2016) on the effect of using an electronic SBAR communication tool on documenting acute events that take place within the pediatric ICU.

The forth literature by Birmingham, Buffum, Blegen, and Lyndon (2015) seeks to understand the relationship between handoffs and patient safety. The fifth literature, an integrative literature review by Wang, Wan, Lin, Zhou, and Shang (2017) seeks to establish the interventions for improving physicians-nurses communications in the ICU. The sixth identified literature is equally an integrated literature review by Stewart (2016) aimed at establishing the relationship between SBAR, communication, and patient safety. The seventh literature is a study….Please click the Paypal icon below to purchase full solution for only $10
