Video Analysis

Benito Mussolini was born into a poor family. His father was a blacksmith while his mother was a schoolteacher. He faced many difficulties in life as a child. His father was a womanizer and a drunkard. His escapades left him with little money to cater for the needs of his family. This made the childhood life of Mussolini to be very difficult making him grow up as a bitter boy. As a child, he was unruly, violent, and quite disobedient. He was involved in several altercations where he even went to the extremes of stabbing his opponent. Nonetheless, Mussolini rose to become one of the most popular leaders of Italy. Relatively, this paper will discuss the foreign policy, violence as a tool of change, and the violation of the personal liberties of Italians during the fascist era.

Benito Mussolini was obsessed with expanding the Italian borders. He wished that Italy could become as big as Britain or even Germany. Most importantly, he hated the fact that the Roman empire had deteriorated and vanished. As a result, he held ambitions of returning the glory of the Roman empire to Italy (Duiker, 2015). For this reason, the foreign policy that led Italy during the reign of the fascist regime was underpinned on expansionist ideology.
