- What is the value of studying the humanities in the field of health professions?
- How might a topic such as art, literature, music, dance, etc. from other time periods enhance your career and personal life in the present?

- In addition, include a specific example of a work (a specific work of art, literature, theater, or music) that you feel is meaningful to your personal life and/or career. Explain the connection.
Solution:
There are various reasons why professions in the health field should study humanities. For one, humanities help these professions to develop their communication skills, ability to listen, an appreciation for the ethical aspects of their field and practice, and ability to interpret (Ramai & Goldin, 2013). These skills contribute to their competence in the subjective and objective assessment of patients. Over time, humanities help health professionals to become increasingly reflective and insightful. Secondly, studying humanities nurtures a professional conscience in health professionals (Ramai & Goldin, 2013). Some studies have found that humanities encourage the display and exercise of virtues such as loyalty fairness, empathy, and compassion. Often the study of medicine and healthcare focuses on cost and efficacy, overlooking the essence of such virtues. Also, some studies have noted that some medicine and healthcare students lose their empathy as they undergo education (Ramai & Goldin, 2013).
