While there exists a myriad of healthcare issues in the New York State, one of the most profound is opioid crisis. According to Compton and Jones (2019), the opioid crisis in New York State is currently multifaceted, and therefore it will need a wide range of interventions to solve it amicably. Opioid takes into account a class of drugs that include the illegal heroine as well as synthetic opioids such as fentanyl. Opioids also include a wide range of pain relievers that are legally available by prescription such as morphine, codeine, and hydrocodone among others.  Weiner, Malek, and Price (2017) contend that opioids can cause serious side effects that are regarded as life-threatening.  These include, but not limited to shallow breathing, loss of consciousness, and slowed heart rate. Opioids are also associated with a wide range of withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia and jittery nerves.  In the context of New York State, in 2017, there were approximately 3224 overdose deaths that involved opioids. This is a rate of 16.1 deaths per 100000 persons, which is significantly higher than that national average, which is 14.6 deaths per 100000 persons.  From this point of view, it can be deduced that opioids use in New York State is serious health issue that need immediate attention. This is due to the fact that it detrimentally affects the health outcomes of many people in the state.
