Review the Institute of Medicine’s 2010 report “The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health.” Write a 750-1,000 word paper discussing the influence of the IOM report on nursing practice. Include the following:

With over three million members, it is with no doubt that the nursing profession is the largest portion of the healthcare workforce in the United States. Working at the core of patient care, nurses typically play an unprecedented role in the realization of the objects set forth by the Affordable Act of 2010.  With the changing healthcare system in the country, there is a need for nurses to advance their career with an aim of meeting the needs of the patients (Polansky, Gorski, Green, Perez, & Wise, 2017). Taking this into consideration, this essay seeks to examine messages outlined in the IOM report. It also explores the influence of the IOM report on nursing education and leadership.  Lastly, this essay evaluates the significance of development and how can help in effectively managing patient care within the evolving health care system.

IOM Messages

The primary goal of the Future of Nursing is to improve healthcare as well as patient outcomes for diverse populations. Taking this into consideration, there are four main messages that are outlined in the IOM report.  The first message is that nurses need to practice to the full potential of their education as well as training (Institute of Medicine, 2011). The report shows that more resources and structure are needed for nurses who are graduating from school.
