Ethical Principle Application
In the realm of nursing practice, ethical principles typically play a fundamental role when it comes to ensuring that nurses perform their duties accordingly. According to Preshaw, Brazil, McLaughlin, and Frolic (2016), these principles include, but not limited to beneficence, nonmaleficence, justice, and autonomy. Taking this into account, by applying these ethical principles, this paper aims at applying these principles to the case of Mr. Newcomb.
How I would Respond to Mr. Newcomb’s Request
I will respond to Mr. Newcomb’s request by stating to him that it is unethical to lie to his wife in order to see his mistress. Thus, I will have to decline the request. I will inform him that despite the fact that I really care about him, lying to his wife is not in line with the professional code of ethics in the nursing practice. I will ask him to make any other request that does not compromise my professional role as a nurse.
