Step 1 Write a paper.In a one- to two-page (250- to 500-word) paper, consider a controversial topic that people are usually on one side or the other of (e.g. whether or not marijuana should be legalized) and address the following:

  • Use the four main elements of an argument to try and change your reader’s opinion.
  • Use techniques that draw the reader in and make them want to read your paper, even if they may not agree with you.
  • List the critical thinking skills you employed to devise the argument in your paper.

Step 2 Save and submit your assignment.

The selected controversial topic for this assignment is capital punishment. According to Bindler and Hjalmarsson (2017), capital punishment in the country has been a topic of debate over the last many years. While some people believe that capital punishment should be abolished, others believe that it should not be abolished.  However, I strongly believe that capital punishment should be abolished for various reasons. To start with, capital punish is considered an inhumane way of administering justice. As such,  they are alternatives that can be used in place of capital punishment such as life imprisonment. Secondly, a wide range of studies has established that capital punishment usually does not help in deterring capital offenses (Hochkammer, 2017). Therefore, despite the need for society to ensure that there is deterrence for some offenses such as murder, capital punishment should not be an option.
