Executive Summary

With the complex and dynamic nature of the modern healthcare system in the country, it has become imperative for healthcare practitioners to implement various initiatives. This is for the primary purpose of promoting positive patient outcomes among patients. In relation to my place of work, one of the initiates that need to be implemented is the reduction of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers among hospitalized patients by the use of the wound-care team. Taking this into consideration, this essay is devoted to vividly explore how hospital-acquired pressure ulcers in my facility can be reduced by the use of a wound-care team.

The Purpose of the Quality Improvement Initiative

The purpose of quality improvement initiative is to reduce the incidences of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers in my place of work. According to McInnes et al. (2015), pressure ulcers are injuries to skin as well as underlying issues that result from prolonged pressure on the skin. In most situations, pressure ulcers develop on skin that covers the bony areas of the body including ankles, heels, tailbone, and hips. In hospital settings, pressure ulcers develop among individuals with limited ability to change position. This explains when they are common among elderly patients, who have limited movements (Mervis & Phillips, 2019).  Therefore, the purpose of this quality improvement initiative to ensure that there is reduction of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers, which will go a long way in promoting positive health outcomes among hospitalized patients.

The Target Population or Audience

The target population for this quality improvement initiative is hospitalized patient populations. Taking this into consideration, Mervis and Phillips (2019) have articulated that hospitalized patients are typically at risk of pressure ulcers particularly due to limited movements.
