Discussion
Think of the best leader or manager you have ever known (or your ideal leader or manager) in nursing or another field. How did this person lead others? How did you feel working with this leader? What impact did this person’s leadership style have on your future leadership?
Solution:
To be successful, the nursing field requires effective leadership in all areas (Hood, 2018). One of the best leaders I have come across in the nursing field is my nurse preceptor. With her transformational leadership style, she has helped me transform from a novice to an expert nurse. She effectively assesses my learning needs, sets goals, and develops and implements plans for learning. By evaluating my clinical competence and teaching me on crucial skills such as time management, critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and clinical progress, she has inspired my personal and professional growth. She offers coaching and constructive feedback, applying effective interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and conflict management skills.
