Robotics in Healthcare
The use of robotics in healthcare has become one of the most growing trends over the last couple of years. The trend is gaining substantial momentum as more and more healthcare organizations adopt robots in various applications within clinical settings. Hebda and Czar (2013) describe a robot as a machine that is capable of carrying out a wide range of complex serious of actions automatically. As such, a robot is usually programmable by a computer. Although robots may be created to take on human forms, most of them are machines typically designed to perform tasks disregarding how they look. In the recent past, many researchers have introduced a plethora of innovative enhancements to medical robots are designed to enhance the quality of care, assists in a wide range of therapies, as well as deliver direct patient care. According to Agnihotri and Gaur (2016), robots have been taking more challenging tasks in modern medical applications owing to their improved capabilities. With robots, productivity during procedures is improved. This, as a result, enables the users to perform tasks that are more challenging, thus improving patient comfort and reducing costs for both medical staffs as well as patients (Ashrafian, Darzi, & Athanasiou, 2015). Taking this into consideration, this essay seeks to explore one of the examples of robotics in healthcare and its impact. This essay also describes my personal experience with robotics within the healthcare setting.
Example of Robotics in Healthcare
There exists a wide range of robotics used by different healthcare organizations across the world. One of the examples is the Bestic Arm. According to Kim, GU, and Heo (2016), Bestic Arm was developed for people with reduced or no capability in their hands of arms. As such, individuals with impaired mobility in their hands of arms can feel the freedom of eating on their own by the use of Bestic Arm. The user can decide which pieces of food to take from the plate as well as when they should lift it. The button of the robot can be controlled easily with any part of the body including the knee, chin, or head (Camanio Care, 2019).
