Question Your Response
1.      Identify a professional nursing-related issue and how you initially experienced this personally in the work environment. There are numerous issues prevalent in the nursing profession. Unfortunately, some of us encounter most of these in our day-to-day operations. I have had my fair share of negative experiences at the face of these issues. For instance, I once experienced bullying. It was in my first job as a registered nurse; just after finishing my associate program. I was a newbie, struggling with the transition from the learning environment into the hectic work environment. Unfortunately, the bullying did not make the transition any easier. I had wanted to be a nurse for so long, but the terrible experience had me considering a change of career.
2.      Describe how the situation unfolded including the key players and their roles (no names used to protect confidentiality). Identify the type of issue reflected in the situation. I was among the few new recruits to join the care facility that month. I could barely hide my excitement for having landed a job just a few weeks after my graduation and licensing. As expected, I was eager to start and develop my practical skills. The hospital had a mentorship program designed to help the new recruits. Herein, new recruits would be placed under an experienced registered nurse who has been at the facility for a considerable period. I and two other nurses were placed under one mentor.  As our mentor, the registered nurse was expected to provide us with daily guidance and support in the transition period. We expected her to create a safe space for us to learn. However, to our dismay, she subjected us to overt bullying. She would often criticize, blame, intimidate, and threaten us. I came to believe that she wanted to scare us into subordination and make us feel incompetent. From time to time, she would find fault in our work and verbally criticize us in front of other nurses.
