Research Article Critique

According to Polovich, Whitford, and Olsen (2014), oncology nurses usually face a wide range of occupational risks owing to their routine administration of chemotherapy.  Chemotherapy entails the use of hazardous medications, which may have detrimental impacts on the health status of oncology nurses. Hazardous medications normally have characteristics of teratogenicity, carcinogenicity, reproductive toxicity, as well as genotoxicity among others.  It has been established from various past studies that occupational exposure renders the nurses in the oncology department highly susceptible to a myriad of potential adverse effects.  These included, but not limited to occurrence of cancer, fetus defects, adverse reproductive outcomes, contact dermatitis, nausea, and allergic reactions.  On this understanding, this paper is devoted to analyze the article Nurse Adherence to Safe-Handling Practices: Observation Versus Self-Assessment by Colvin, Karius, and Albert (2016).  This is through exploring the research question, research design, sampling, data collection methods, research limitations, and study findings.

Description of the Research Question

This study has not explicitly stated the underlying research questions. However, it is deducible from the research that the research question linked to this study is; Are the NIOSH PPE recommendations and hospital chemotherapy exposure policies adhered to in real clinical settings?
