Think about disasters your community has or could potentially face. Now, think about how your community is helping its members prepare.

  1. Explore your community and find an advertisement that represents helping community members be prepared for a disaster.
    • Examples could be a billboard, poster at a bus stop, marquee sign, flyer, yard sign and more. Example: Sign advertising ‘free’ flu vaccinations at a local pharmacy.
  2. Upload that picture into the discussion.

  3. Describe the message the advertisement is conveying.
    • Describe how the message impact preparedness.

Solution:

The advert I saw is a Flu shot in a supermarket, sensitizing the public to get a flu shot. This message is substantially important as it can remind or influence the public to take a flu shot to protect them during flu outbreaks, improving the public’s preparedness to fighting against flu infections which are known to be highly costly and life-threatening. According to Srivastav et al. (2019), most people fail to take vaccines due to ignorance, lack of knowledge, and interest. Thus, increased public sensitization has been proven to improve their curiosity, awareness, and knowledge for the flu vaccination, and thus, enhancing the public’s compliance to the recommended flu shots (Srivastav et al., 2019).

One facility affected by this disaster is home health settings.
