My area of specialty is mother and baby care which is also referred to as postpartum. In this type of care, it entails attending to both the mother and the newborn through ensuring that they are in stable and safe condition and in particular the first 24 hours (Forster et al., 2016). I ascribe to the person-centered care theory which is described as providing care to a patient as a whole, in line with their needs and involving them, their family, and friends if necessary (Oldham, 2016). The core objective of this approach is assisting patients in planning their care upon an assessment of their needs. In this theory, among the core elements are a trusting relationship between the patient and nurse, emphasizing with the individual, and valuing the patient without judgment.

Person-centered care theory relates to all four-nursing metaparadigm. In the person component, it entails focusing on the patient’s family members and other essential stakeholders to the individual (Vonarx, 2016). The outcome is reflected in how the individual relates to their social and physical connection.
