Description of the Assignment

For this assignment, the student will complete MSN EBP project proposal by including the final sections of data collection, analysis, evaluation, dissemination of results, and conclusion.

 

Criteria for Content

  1. The final sections of the proposal (data collection, analysis, evaluation, dissemination of results and conclusion) should be a maximum of 15 pages. Points will be lost for exceedingthis length requirement.
  2. Title page, running head, body of paper, and reference pages must follow APA guidelines as found in the 6th edition of the manual. This includes the use of headings for each section of the paper except for the introduction where no heading is used.

Despite being a potentially preventable illness, cervical cancer has continued to affect a plethora of women and it is recognized as the second most prevalent cancer type amongst women throughout the world. Women from developing countries are most affected and often encounter higher rates of cervical-cancer related morbidities and mortalities due to the inadequacy of cervical cancer screening tools and programs. Every year, the world reports around 500,000 new diagnoses of cervical cancer and 273,000 cervical cancer-related deaths, with 80% of the cases occurring in developing nations (Bray et al., 2018). According to Wright et al. (2015), Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infection, which is usually sexually transmitted, results in the growth of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia as well as cervical cancer. Women with multiple sex partners or women whose partners have multiple sex partners are at a heightened risk of developing cervical cancer. Lees, Erickson, and Huh (2016) argue that early detection followed by timely treatment of pre-cancerous lesions is the optimal approach to prevention of, protection from, and reduction of cervical cancer cases. Bray et al. (2018) add that cervical cancer rates have declined by 70 to 90 percent in developed nations with well-developed cervical screening programs. There are various methodologies of cervical cancer screening including Papanicolaou (Pap) smear, HPV DNA test, cervix visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA), and colposcopy (Wright et al., 2015). Colposcopy is not a primary cervical screening test but is usually used in combination with other tests. In this regards, this is an MSN project proposal paper for use of cervical screening in reducing cervical cancer incidences. It includes data collection, analysis, evaluation, and dissemination of results.

Data collection

The key aim of this MSN research project is to determine the effectiveness of cervical screening among women aged 21-65 years in reducing cervical cancer incidences. The developed PICOT question is “In women between the ages of 21 and 65 years (P), does cervical cancer screening (I) as compared to no screening (C) helps in reducing the incidences of cervical cancer (O) within a period of 10 weeks (T)?”
