A novice educator is talking with her mentor. During the conversation, the novice educator expresses great pride in the fact that all learners passed the required course with a perfect score. How would the mentor respond to this information with application of course evaluation techniques? This question can be discussed from either the viewpoint of nurse professional development or an academic setting.
As the mentor, I would first congratulate the educator for the perfect scores that the learners got. I would then proceed to provide my substantive response with the application of course evaluation techniques. According to Tan et al. (2018), course evaluation is highly important as it demonstrates the learners’ course achievement and the general quality of the course. Assuming the educator was in an academic setting, I would enlighten him/her about individual assessment which includes observing clinical performance, assignments, and examination scores to better determine if the learners demonstrated the course outcomes for successful completion of the specific course through their “perfect scores.” If all courses comprising the educational programs had perfect scores, then it means the learner should be able to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and behaviors as per the BSN essential’s program outcomes.
