In such a case, as the substitute clinical educator, my priority would be to protect the safety of the patient by preventing any more actions that could jeopardize patient safety. I would summon the nurse that is not doing a good job in private to discuss her actions as well as the clinical objectives and outcomes and what she expected to do based on knowledge and skills. I would ask her about patient care to better understand what knowledge and skills she has, her strengths, and weaknesses, as well as her areas of improvements.
