A workplace assessment is needed in healthcare environments to help identify and improve areas of improvement and make the workplace a better place (Clark, 2018). This paper will discuss the workplace environment assessment completed, conduct a literature review, and the evidence-based strategies for creating high-performing inter-professional teams.
Part I: Work Environment Assessment
From the completed assessment, our workplace has high levels of civility, with more than 50% of the areas of assessment scoring 4 or even better. Our healthcare organization has implemented various evidence-based interventions to improve the workplace environment, including policies and protocols for reporting incivility cases. The areas of improvement identified include meeting the demands of the increasing complexity of healthcare advancements and the diverse patient and employees’ needs. The areas that are moderately civil, scoring “somewhat true” include trust levels between organization staff and leadership, respectful and open communication at all organizational levels, a shared mission and vision based on respect, trust, and collegiality, employees being highly valued, an equal celebration of individual’s or team’s success, the motivation of employees to share their exceptional ideas and points of views, and the use of effective skills in conflict management.
