There exists a plethora of psychological views of religion that help in providing an explanation regarding the origin of religions. Taking this into account, one of such psychological views is that of Sigmund Freud. According to Richards (2019), Sigmund is famous not only for his psychoanalytic school of thought by his keen interest in religion. As an adult, he considered himself an atheist. Nonetheless, various scholars have argued that his Jewish background, as well as upbringing, played an imperative role in the development of his ideas.  Additionally, owing to his religious background, Freud was aware of the influence of religion on identity. In fact, he acknowledged that his Jewish background played a pertinent role in shaping his personality.
