- Define the Confucian terms: ren, yi, li, zhi, and xin. Choose one of these principles and examine how it contributes to social harmony.
- What is wuwei? How does this ideal contribute to harmony with heaven? How does the Daoist idea of wuwei compare to Confucian notions of how one should live in the world?
Solution:
Confucius is regarded as the greatest as well as the most significant thinker in Chinese History. There are five most important ideal ethics are ren, yi, li, Zhi, and xin (Sun & Kang, 2015). These principles are considered to be the backbone of Confucianism. Taking this into consideration, ren refers to kindness and generosity, and thus it teaches people the importance of caring and being selfless. Yi is the aspect of helping out others when they are in trouble. This means that people need to have the ability to differetiate between the right and wrong (Molloy, 2013).
