Despite the fact that there exists a myriad of religions, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are considered as the most influential. According to Molly (2013), these three religions are popularly known as Abrahamic religions. This is attributed to the fact that they typically trace their history to the Ancient figure Abraham. Many interpretivism schools of thoughts have affirmed that the relationships that exist among these three religions have to a considerable extent been influenced and shaped by the historical perspectives under which they were formed. Nonetheless, the three religions are highly differentiated by their ideologies. On this understanding, the role of this paper is to explore the historical relationship between Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Additionally, this essay is dedicated to exploring the aspect of the nature of God from the view of these three religions.
The Historical Relationship between Judaism, Christianity, and Islam
Many scholars have described the historical relationship that exists among Judaism, Christianity, and Islam as strong. Taking this into consideration, when it comes to the history of Judaism, the relationship of the Israelites with God is described in the Tanakh, which is one of the primary texts of Judaism. This text describes the relationship of the Israelites with God from the earliest history until the destruction of the second temple in c.535 BCE. As argued by Sanders (2016), Judaism regards Abraham as the first Hebrew and the father of the Jews. The name Judaism is derived from Judah, who was one of the great-grandsons of Abraham. Initially, the Israelites were regarded as the tribes who lived in the Kingdom of Israel and Kingdom of Judah. Nonetheless, as affirmed by Wertheimer (2018), after being conquered, a portion of members of the Kingdom of Judah returned to Israel.
